Imagine
that you’re born in a place which is marred by atrocities in everyday life.
You’re determined to make a change for the betterment of your kin. What would
you do? Go through the troubles of the system or revolt against it? ‘One Last
Question’ attempts to answer these questions.
Inspired
by the real life story of Oxford alumnus Manjit Nath this (mid-length) film
takes us back to Assam of 1998 where four friends - Tutul, Senga, Podum and
Shamim are preparing for their annual exams. Every child is special in his own
way. Tutul’s father is an English teacher respected by the entire village. The
young bloods discover newfound love for the activities of the ‘Mukti Bahini’.
(Don’t confuse it with the Bangladeshi freedom organisation. Here, it refers to
the banned group ULFA) Where does it lead them? Watch the film to know more.
The
film is shot in some of the most exotic locations of Assam. It took one and a
half years for its completion as it was crowd funded. Prathamesh Krisang is
near flawless in his multiple roles as the writer, cinematographer, producer and
the director. The local actors add to the authenticity of the concept and Adil
Hussain is an icing on top of the cake.
The
most appealing part about this film is its message which is of utmost
importance to our society. I will be happy if it reaches separatist voices, all
over the country, that try to create problems every now and then. We are well aware
about the anti-India sentiments in Kashmir but not Assam. This is another
reason to watch the film.
I
am going with four stars out of five and two big thumbs up for ‘One Last
Question’. It’s one of those gems that you rarely come across.
